Our 3 Step Approach

Karya Earn

Karya Earn

Karya Earn provides critical supplementary income to communities in rural India by connecting them to the global AI ecosystem. We employ Karya workers to generate high-quality image, speech, video and text datasets. By paying our workers nearly 20 times the Indian minimum wage, redirecting the majority of client revenue to our workers, and investing in our workers' welfare beyond just giving them work, we are attempting to build the world's foremost ethical AI-data company.

Karya Learn

Karya Learn

We plan to release our successfully piloted e-learning platform to 1 million users in 2024 with 7 career growth modules.

Karya Grow

Karya Grow

Through Karya Grow, our aim is to develop on-ground support that helps our communities transition into full time careers using their newly acquired skills.

Karya’s mission is to provide economically disadvantaged individuals a pathway out of poverty by providing them with dignified and AI enabled solutions to Earn, Learn & Grow.

Our technology and design teams have worked together to launch multiple new features to make our app more accessible and inclusive. This allows us to bring even more sophisticated digital tasks straight to the hands of our communities in rural India.

In India, poverty affects more than 230 million people. It’s our goal to give everyone an opportunity to access the benefits of the Karya ecosystem. When identifying and mobilising participants, we actively prioritise the inclusion of women and persons with marginalised identities. To do this, we’ve partnered with over 200 organisations creating incredible impact for thousands of under-resourced individuals across India.

Research is at the core of how we think and deliver true impact to our communities. This year we have had many exciting additions to our research agenda. Our research has allowed us to better understand our impact and identify how we can grow our program and strategy to deliver the most holistic change. On the evaluation front, we have supported two randomised control trials (RCTs) on our platform to understand the impact of our work on women through collaborations with MIT/JPAL and Stanford. On the R&D front, we’ve made huge leaps in developing and testing Karya Learn - our digital skilling platform. We launched an internal research project to understand the efficacy of our learn-to-earn model through a financial literacy curriculum; and we have conceptualised and designed a novel e-learning and skilling platform.

This year, we established partnerships with an incredible roster of clients. We got started on two exciting partnerships with Google. We began work on Project Sanmati, a multiple-year engagement with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. We became a partner in IIT Madras’ critical mission to build AI services in Indic languages. We supported Government of India’s transformative initiative, Bhashini, and continued our long-standing academic collaborations with Microsoft Research. We welcomed new partners like Ola’s Krutrim AI, Digital Green Foundation, Wadhwani.AI, Reverie Technologies and ICICI Lombard to the Karya family. We built a voice-assistant app for the Karnataka Health Promotion Trust and USAID to support health-related queries from Tuberculosis patients.
